Auntie Anne’s, Cinnabon and Jamba cash rounding policy
GoTo Foods, which franchises Auntie Anne’s, Cinnabon, Jamba, Carvel and other brands, recommends that franchisees round cash transactions in the guest’s favor.
What Auntie Anne’s & Cinnabon does with cash totals
GoTo Foods told CBS News in November 2025 that it is “recommending that franchisees round cash transactions in the guest’s favor.” In practice that means a cash total is rounded down to the nearest nickel (or the change rounded up), so customers never pay more than the listed price.
The statement covers the GoTo Foods brands, which include Auntie Anne’s, Cinnabon, Jamba and Carvel. It is a recommendation: nearly all locations are franchised, many sit in malls and airports with their own cash-handling rules, and an individual store may still give exact change while it has pennies.
What you pay in cash
| Exact total | You pay in cash | Difference | Card / app |
|---|---|---|---|
| $7.81 | $7.80 | −1¢ | $7.81 |
| $7.82 | $7.80 | −2¢ | $7.82 |
| $7.83 | $7.80 | −3¢ | $7.83 |
| $7.84 | $7.80 | −4¢ | $7.84 |
| $7.85 | $7.85 | same | $7.85 |
| $7.86 | $7.85 | −1¢ | $7.86 |
| $7.87 | $7.85 | −2¢ | $7.87 |
| $7.88 | $7.85 | −3¢ | $7.88 |
| $7.89 | $7.85 | −4¢ | $7.89 |
Does it vary by state?
Rounding in the guest’s favor never charges more than the exact price, and it matches Connecticut’s current round-down-only guidance. It is not the method written into the mandatory laws: Arizona (when a seller is not using pennies) and Georgia require symmetric rounding of cash totals, and California will from July 1, 2027. We have not seen how GoTo Foods franchisees handle those states.
Card vs cash
The recommendation applies to cash transactions. Card, app and gift card payments are charged the exact amount.
Tips for customers
- At a store following the recommendation, paying cash can save you up to 4¢.
- If a store rounds a cash total up, it is not following the parent company’s stated recommendation; ask at the counter.
- Airport and mall kiosks may have their own cash rules, so check the sign.
